DePaul Spoils Final Game for SHP Football

On a rainy, foggy Friday night the Pirates tried to end their regular season with a win. However, in the past years, they have fallen short of defeating Depaul. Coach Fitzgerald’s team fell short of a 7-win regular-season this year losing 20-6.

It was clear from the start that this was going to be a game won on the ground. With the wet conditions and wind, passing was going to be difficult. DePaul front 7 made it difficult for Myles Thomason ’22 to run the ball, so the offense had to pass. Jaden Craig’s offense was unsuccessful in their first drive, punting the ball away, but their stellar defense created a turnover. Standout Jaden McClain ’24 picked off AJ Rodriguez and gave the offense the ball on the fifty-yard line. All first-half Prep’s offense struggled to move the ball with two lost fumbles. Depaul capitalized on the turnovers, going into the half with a two-score lead. AJ Rodriguez found Jake Kucera twice to put Depaul up 14-0 at halftime. Neither offense could not score in the 3rd quarter or early in the fourth. After a successful fourth try with 4 minutes to go Jaden Craig ’22 found his favorite receiver, Nick Dunneman ’22 for a big score; the two-point conversion failed. Depaul led the pirates 14-6 with 2 minutes to go.  SHP hoped for their defense to produce another stop, but DePaul sealed the game. Tyler Brown took a handoff 65-yards to the house, resulting in another DePaul win: 20-6.
