The health benefits of swimming are very well known; however, this school year’s swimming season should be just as well known. As the 2024-2025 swim season comes to an end, I recently had the opportunity to speak with Mr. Boyle ’13, the swim head coach. He had many great things to say about this season, the incredible team, and his role as the head coach.
I first asked Mr. Boyle to briefly recap the 2024-2025 swim season. The season started the first weekend in December and continued to the beginning of March. This school year, the team had many great wins. First, in a very close meet against Delbarton, The Prep ultimately got the victory. In addition, the team had very successful county tournament. Going into the state playoffs, the swim team had a bye in the first round. Unfortunately, the team lost in their second match up with Delbarton. Overall, however, the team had a great season filled with outstanding accomplishments. I asked Mr. Boyle what important lessons he has taught the swimmers on the team. He mentioned being hard workers and good people both in and outside the swim team.
Next, I asked Mr. Boyle what he loved about the team and the areas where he would like to see them improve. Mr. Boyle was particularly impressed by how the team came together at the January meet and knew their roles. He enjoyed seeing how the team worked together, and everyone was trying to help others around them become better swimmers. In addition, Mr. Boyle believes that if the team continues to build on this, they will become better and much stronger.
Mr. Boyle started his career teaching at The Prep. He has been one of the assistant coaches starting in 2020. After a quick interview, Mr. Boyle was selected to become SHP’s head swim coach. Going into this role, Mr. Boyle was nervous but confident that the team would perform at their best, and this was the true outcome. Mr. Boyle was actually a member of the swim team during his time at The Prep. Some of his favorite memories of being on the team were the state playoffs at the end of the season as well as the county meets during his senior year.
I wondered what Mr. Boyle would say to incoming freshman who are interested in joining the swim team. Mr. Boyle advises students to practice a lot during the summer months and to reach out to him. It was a pleasure to meet someone as accomplished as Mr. Boyle. I am sure that The Prep swim team will continue to grow stronger every year under Mr. Boyle’s leadership.
