Hockey Season Is Upon Us

The days are getting shorter, and the temperature is dropping outside, which can only mean one thing; hockey season is upon us! The SHP boys’ varsity ice hockey season will open on Monday, December 12 against St. Augustine Prep at South Mountain Arena at 4:00 pm. This year Seton Hall Prep looks to improve on their 10-12-2 record of last season.

The team will once again be coached by Mike Atkinson along with assistant coaches Kevin Crane and Angelo Giambattista.

The team’s overall performance last year was worthy of a better finish, and his year Sean Murphy ’23 hopes to improve by unifying the talent on the team. According to Murphy, “Last year the team had a lot of individually skilled players, but we were never able to work together. This year I hope to better the bond between the boys and create better chemistry to help our overall performance on the ice.”

Even with the loss of goaltender Demetrios Koularmanis ’22 there will be no shortage of talent between the pipes as the team will rely on strong senior goaltending as well as the presence of several sophomore and junior goalies to compete. Goaltending has been a strong presence on the SHP team, and this year should be no different. As in the past, the team will look for solid offensive and defensive control against rival schools.

The season will run through February 13, 2023 and is scheduled to include the annual holiday tournament over the Christmas break. Plan to support The Prep and “pack the zoo”!
