SHP Football Falls to Paramus Catholic

The Seton Hall Prep Football Pirates came off an impressive win against Red Bank Catholic and got ranked #5 in the state. Their opponent, Paramus Catholic, is came off a 49-10 loss to Delbarton.

Paramus Catholic’s offense went right down the field on their first drive, resulting in a 5-yard touchdown run from Kievon Harper. The Prep’s offense struggled to move the ball in the first quarter, only scoring three points. The opposite was true for Paramus, Kievon Harper continued to dominate, scoring another touchdown, and Paramus connected on two field goals extending their lead by seventeen. The Pirates answered as Jaylen McClain ’24 scored on an end-around touchdown; Paramus led 20-10 at halftime. The Prep’s defense was stellar in the second half, not allowing Paramus to score. The Pirates’ running game found its groove when Michael Dunmore ’24 broke free and scored a 23-yard rushing touchdown. The Pirates got the ball down three with nine minutes to go but faced a 4th and six on the 14-yard line; Coach Fitzgerald decided to go for it. Paramus put pressure on the quarterback and forced an incompletion resulting in a turnover on downs. The Pirates’ defense was strong and forced a punt, which gave the offense the ball on the 45-yard line with 4 minutes to go. However, Paramus’ defense stopped the Pirates on 4th down again and gave the Paladins their second win of the season. The Pirates fell 20-17.
