SHP Downs Pope John in Second Game

Seton Hall Prep after into SHI Stadium with an emotional win over Delbarton to face Pope John. Pope John defeated Montclair Immaculate 16-6 in their first game. The Prep has been victorious against the Lions for the last three years.

Similar to the first game, the Pirates’ offense came out firing, scoring on the first drive. Liam Londergan ’24 found Danny Easter ’23 for the 14-yard score. Pope John marched down the field and scored, but the play was called back for holding. The Lions attempted a 35-yard field goal, but the attempt was no good. Next drive, the Pirates stalled offensively, and Pope John caused a turnover. The Lions capitalized on the interception, and Tylik Hill ran into the end zone to tie the game. SHP was tied 7-7 at the half. As in the game against Delbarton, The Prep’s defense was perfect in the second half. Both offenses struggled in the 3rd quarter and early 4th. After a 3-and-out for Pope John with 5 minutes left, Londergan marched down the field to win the game again. After finding Andrew Daly ’23 on a screen pass on 3 and 8, the Prep faced a 4th and 1. Coach Fitzgerald gave the ball to Luigi Pantano ’24 , who ran for the first down. Next play, Luigi got the ball again and scored with 30 seconds left, winning the game for Seton Hall. The Prep won 14-7.

Seton Hall had a bye the next week, and now faces Bergen Catholic on Saturday September 17.
