SHP Soccer Wins State Title Again

With a season full of uncertainty, the players on the Seton Hall Prep varsity soccer team used the school’s “Hazard Zet Forward” motto to repeat as NJSIAA Sectional Champions! The Pirates entered the tournament as the four seed due to two quarantines and stoppages of play during the school year. The Prep came into the postseason with only seven games played instead of the normal fifteen to eighteen they normally play during the regular season. The Pirates initially faced the five seed, Montclair Kimberly. In a back-and-forth game that embodied strong defense, the game went into overtime. Shortly into overtime David Schuster ’22 fired a shot into the back of the net for a game-winner advancing the Pirates into the semifinals.

Next, The Prep faced one seed Bergen Catholic in the semis for a chance at the finals. A well-played 2-0 win for the Pirates advanced Coach Berman’s squad into the finals. Seton Hall Prep faced two seed Saint Peter’s Prep in the NJSIAA Northeast Finals for the opportunity to go back-to-back as state champions. They dominated from the start. Goals scored by Lucas Ross ’21 and Drew Ligotti  ’22 gave the Pirates insurance heading into the second half. In the end, the Pirates dominated, defeating Saint Peter’s 4-0 to be crowned victorious
