Promethans Help with Pandemic Teaching

COVID-19 has left many people to come and rely on technology heavily and Seton Hall
Prep is no exception to this change. The school, with the rest of the world, has
been left to depend on technology to help them get through these unforeseen times. The
Prometheans are a perfect example of the benefits that technology can provide to schools and the
learning process. Prometheans are quite a step up from any other type of smart board technology,
functioning as an independent computer. They are powerful and efficient machines that can help
increase productivity in the learning process. The Prometheans are leading to new approaches in
which data and information can be presented to students and teachers alike. I attempted to collect
information from teachers to see their perspectives on the situation. The majority of these
teachers showed appreciation for these new advanced devices. While it certainly can be
daunting to learn the ins and outs of the Prometheans, the outcome will most definitely be a
great benefit to the Seton Hall Prep community.

COVID-19 is a historically unprecedented event, in which everything people considered
normal has been changed. From large gatherings to wearing masks, everything is being changed
and adapted to fit into the current pandemic. The ideology of people as well has been altered. The
way people are approaching life seems to be more open now than during the pre-COVID-19 era.
One new change to the Seton Hall Prep community is the new Promethean boards. These high
tech boards are capable of running a plethora of software with great efficiency when compared to

their predecessors, the interactive whiteboards by SMART Technologies. I interviewed one of
my teachers, Ms. Cerami, to see if I could acquire a new perspective on how much the
Prometheans are changing the teaching process. Ms. Cerami expressed her approval of the new
Promethean boards, stating that they have helped to improve the way she can teach math to her
students: “It absolutely enhances our students’ math education by providing tools that create
precision…and the best part is no calibration is needed. It saves time and makes
visuals clearer.”

These computers are capable of performing multiple tasks, such as functioning as a
whiteboard, and providing access to Chromium, and Microsoft Word. While I am certain that Ms. Cerami

is not the only teacher who utilizes the Prometheans to their max ability, it still shows a glimpse into how these
new technologies have already impacted our school and its future.
The technologies provided to the school this year have greatly benefitted the community
at Seton Hall Prep. Although students and teachers alike must learn to quickly
adapt, besides the initial learning curve, these devices will prove to be a great assistance to the
school in the future. Seemingly a common theme during these times, the uncertainty of how long
the school will remain open has led many teachers to get an early start to learning all about the
new boards. While the school plans to stay in person for the rest of the year, everyone must be
prepared for the worst. These Prometheans, as seen in the two weeks the school went virtual this
year, proved to be very effective in helping the teachers and students communicate. I am certain that in

the near future these boards will only continue to grow in importance
to Seton Hall Prep, and rightfully so. Between COVID-19 and the school year, having new
technology to help make the pandemic go smoothly is a great advantage that the school decided
to invest in. Many teachers, such as Ms. Cerami, have been keen to learn all about these boards
and how they have helped the students learn during this time of immense change. Ms. Ceramis said, “As the

technological needs of our students are changing rapidly, the Promethean thus far has proven to
support all of the changes and new challenges.” While this is only the beginning of the
schools’ usage of the boards, it is certain that this new technology is here to stay as the
impact can already be felt after only three hectic months.
